How to care for your sex toys

If it's one thing you want to take proper care of, sex toys might be given that honour. Harmful bacterias could cause serious health issues and let's face it, there's no fun in that!

Depending on which toys you have depends on how you keep them clean. You should be focusing on the materials when adult toy shopping! Medical grade materials are something that will make cleaning much easier! The quality is great and they are the cleanest. Porous toys are difficult to keep clean as they easily gather bacteria. If your toy is made out of glass, be mindful of the temperatures and refrain from using hot water to clean it with.  For instance, don't put it in the dishwater, the heat is much too harsh and could break it. However, stainless steel can go in the dishwasher. Be sure to dry well always, after cleaning.

You can find cleaners at adult stores as well as Amazon. Keep an eye out for water-based and try to avoid oil-based. Oil can break down silicone, so it's best to steer clear of that all together! The best way to clean your sex toys is with cleaners specifally made for them.

Some people simply use soap and lukewarm water. If the instructions on your toys state that's safe, then go for it. It's important to choose the right soap. The soap should be fragrant free. Certain fragrances can cause UTI's among other issues. Choose an unscented, mild soap. Perhaps a tea tree oil, organic soap may be your best bet. If it's not safe to use on your genetials, then it isn't safe to use on your sex toys.

Always take extra precautions with battery operated toys. You don't want to get them wet and destroy them. Simply wipe it down with a warm washcloth and the cleaner.

Choosing the right lub is crucial in caring for your sex toys. Silicone and oil based lubes should never be used with silicone toys. Water-based or hybrid lub is the best choice and always clean it and dry it afterwards.

Porous can't be completely disinfected, so using a condom with these materials is the safest choice to make. If your toy is made of jelly, you should also always use a condom.

Removing batteries when you're not using them is also helpful since batteries can corrode certain materials.

I like to keep my toys in my nightstand drawer right next to my bed. I keep them in the packages they came in. The bedroom is always room temperature and inside the drawer is dark. They aren't exposed to harsh temperatures and sun. You should find a safe place to store your sex toys in like that, unless the directions state otherwise. There are even specifcally made storage boxes for sex toys. Investing in one of these with a lock and key might be rewarding as not only are they in a clean environment, but if anyone is snooping in your drawers, they are none the wiser!

Even the best toys' lives come to an end. If you see any signs of deterioration, it's time to say good-bye. Throw it away!

All sex toys should be cleaned after every single use. Think of your sex toys like underwear, they should always be clean and never used twice without a thorough cleaning. Some people even clean them again before every use. You can never be too cautious. The bottom line is, take the best care of your sex toys that you can and they will likely return the favor!
